Unmanicured Garden
Cool fresh air accompanied by cloudless turquoise skies
so neat and clean compared to the wildness of foliage
that surrounds me. Many green plants
from large oaks giving shade to ferns the size of seeds.
Under a canopy lies a stone bench, cold with chiseled legs. Metal rims
carve a path only big enough for one, around the edge of the garden
avoiding the center. Boulders scattered around
sneaking through the brush
some prefer camouflage of dark green fuzzy moss.
A single pot made to look like a chalice
stained a faint green from a lack of wash. Nothing inside
but a small layer of fishy mush home to blood suckers. On the right
is the congregation of green rocks
circling a stump, the diameter of a tennis ball
almost as if the owner cut the poor adolescent
tree down in their last goodbye.
I can tell why
with tires screeching nearby.
